The guidance and control systems for marine vehicles are described in as simple as possible terms in order for the reader to be introduced in this very interesting area of research which is advancing very fast. Main guidance control systems for ships will be covered. Due to space limitations it was not possible to cover many systems which are used today for marine vehicle guidance and control. Some defining terms at the end will help the reader to better understand the topics of this paper.
