Sažetak
In the large number of festivals that have appeared in Croatia since the 1990-ies, we should single out the one which is dedicated to handcrafts, lacemaking and to lace as the product of this craft. This is the first and the only festival of this type in Croatia and generally in the whole region of Southeastern Europe. In the eleven years of its existence the festival has become the recognizable and frequently visited tourist event promoting the skill of lacemaking, especially of the Lepoglava lace, which is the bobbin lace, but also of two other types of Croatian lace recognizable on the European level, especially Pag lace, which is the needlepoint lace, and Hvar lace, made from the threads of the agave. Lepoglava is the little town in the Northwestern Croatia, in the Varaždin County, whose history can be told through three different stories which are mutually connected: the story of the Paulist Fathers and their legacy in Lepoglava and Croatia, the story of the Lepoglava prison and the story of Lepoglava lace. Here we will focus shortly on the story of the lacemaking festival in Lepoglava.
