In recent years the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has made enormous investments in global health. As a private foundation it has the ability to decide its own agenda, yet because of the huge influence it has, especially on research addressing the major health problems of low-income countries, its decisions and priorities should have necessarily become the subject of scrutiny and comment intense interest and analysis by the global health community. This Collectively, the expressed opinions eventually contribute to accountability of the Foundation and is have an important so that the foundation can developfunction of the "natural feedback loop" that Bill Gates said in his first annual letter is currentlywas missing (BG annual letter). Such informal scrutiny should include whetherassist the foundation funding isin assessment whether its investments have been consistent with its mission and if it is appropriately balanced to achieve optimal results.
