Sažetak
According to the research, there is concrete evidence of PCB penetration in the environment near the Transformer Station near Zadar during the warfare destruction. Since the biogeochemical concentration of these compounds is great, the population consuming contaminated organisms is jeopardized. Therefore, it was necessary to determine the levels of these compounds in marine organisms, especially in fish from the coastal area of Zadar. Samples of benthic and semibenthic fish are collected from ten stations on the coast and the marina near estuary of the Vruljica stream and from the Vruljica stream itself (30 samples in total). Three samples of water from the Vruljica stream were also collected. They were analyzed on PCBs and chlorinated pesticides content using standard methods, as well as ECD compounds using "fingerprint" gas chromatography. Gas chromatograms did not demonstrate presence of PCBs in water of the Vruljica stream in the level of 0,005 ppb with certainty. Unquestionably, it has been proved that the levels of PCB in fish from Zadar coastal area significantly increase toward stations near Marina and Vruljica. Samples of sediments, mussles (Mytilus galloprovincialis) and fish from the Zadar area analyzed by ZIMO, IRB showed the highest levels of PCB and DDTs compared to other areas in the Adriatic. Some samples of fish showed levels of PCB that were rarely found in the investigation of the Adriatic and Mediterranean so far. Trends in levels of chlorinated carbohydrates in benthic and semibenthic fish collected at the coastal area of the Adriatic and Zadar change significantly when compared with samples collected in 1997. and 1999. While a decrease in levels of DDT is observed, levels of PCB statistically increase with great significance.
