Sažetak
This article briefly outlines the Croatian higher educational scene underlining problems which led to the attempt at reforms based on the Bologna scheme. Furthermore, it explains the organisational, structural and curricular objectives of proposed changes, pointing out major obstacles for their full realisation. Also, it discusses the achievements made in adjusting the Croatian higher education system to the requirements of the six points of the Bologna Process, explaining the circumstances in Croatia which are causing some delays. In this article it is argued that the main reason for the adoption of the Bologna Process in Croatia was the necessity of the improvement of efficiency of the system of higher education particularly in terms of the lenght of studies and percentage of students who complete them, as well as the necessity of the improvement of organisational functionality of the previuosly non-integrated university. But, even though the adjustment to the Bologna scheme looked like a good opportunity for the introduction of the necessary changes, very serious problems occurred at the very beginning of its implementation.
