Sažetak
Migraine is diagnosed in less than half of all migraine patients. Migraine is more likely to be misdiagnosed in patients with comorbid diseases. Many migraine patients are misdiagnosed as having ear, nose throat or eye diseases and therefore are often reffered primarily to ENT and ophthalmology clinics. Migraine is a significant risk factor for juvenile stroke, especially in patients under the age of 35 years. On the contrary, elderly migraineurs are not at increased risk to develop ischemic stroke. There are several possible mechanisms for stroke associated with migraine (with or without aura). Certain risk factors for stroke, among which MTHFR genotype has been studied recently: MTHFR C677T genotype has been associated with elevated homocystein levels, female hormones estrogen and the presence of patent foramen ovale (PFO). Prevalence of PFO is two times higher in patients with stroke who also have migraine ; stroke risk is even higher in patients who have migraine with aura. Furthermore, migraine has been linked with ischemic heart diseases and deep vein thrombosis. However, studies so far have not shown a consistency regarding the association between factor V Leiden, factor II, factor VII A1 with migraine and stroke...
