Sažetak
Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.), grown primarily as a source of seed oil, is also significant source of high quality proteins, which, at present, are used as a low grade animal feed. It also contains glucosinolates, polyphenols (sinapin and sinapic acid as predominant ones), fiber and phytate, which may hinder use of the meal as an animal feed. Antioxidative properties of polyphenols in rapeseed extracts are of importance from a technological perspective, because they could be used as natural antioxidants in fats and oils. The object of this study was to determine the antioxidant capacity (AOC) of OO-rapeseed cultivars from the Croatian sort-list in relation to the total polyphenols content (TP). In methanol extracts of defatted rapeseed (70 %, v/v) the AOC was characterized by two free radical scavenging methods (DPPH and ORAC). Total polyphenols in the resulting extracts were assessed using the Folin-Ciocalteau assay. The greatest antioxidant capacity (EC50=34.65 mg g-1 and ORAC=372.47 meqv Trolox) was exhibited by the sample with the highest concentration of polyphenols (TP=9.22 mg g-1), whilst the lowest AOC (EC50=78.20 mg g-1 ; ORAC=167.45 meqv Trolox) corresponds to the lowest content of TP (TP=4.42 mg g-1).
