Sažetak
Nowadays technology development brings changes to libraries that result in creating new services for users. Digital technology over time became incorporated into library management and has affected all parts of library activities, including preservation. Preservation was traditionally considered as rare book conservation. However, today its purpose is more oriented towards user needs. The aim of this work is to give perspectives on use and preservation of heritage in digital age. There are many heritage collections in Croatian libraries and other institutions that need to be preserved not only as a part of national heritage, but also for scientific, educational, cultural, historical and other research purposes. Central Diocesan and Faculty Library in Djakovo, Croatia, is taken as an example for analyzing the impact of digital age demands on library services and preservation of library collections. This library serves as a diocesan and a faculty library and thus it combines two functions - collecting and preserving written heritage, and supporting academic process. Overview of these functions will be given. A special emphasis in this work is on analysing heritage management in the digital realm in comparison to user needs and library services from a preservation point of view. Data for this analysis were gathered through the methods of interview and questionnaire.
