Sažetak
Knjiga se bavi kulturnim, sociološkim, estetskim i političkim uvjetima nastanka i razvoja hrvatskog književnog kanona u 19. stoljeću. Kanonski tekstovi se promatraju kao okamine kulturne vrijednosti (materijalizacija kulturnog kapitala kako ga vidi P. Bourdieu) koje estetsku mjerodavnost ne štiti od nacionalnih, političkih i drugih instrumentalizacija. This book deals with the circumstances, conditions and repercussions of the processes which directed the Croatian national literary canon towards its rise and continuation. In its first part, the thesis considers the theoretical, historical and media predispositions that shaped these processes. The processes are linked to the emergence of an autonomous field of artistic production and the dynamic of its functioning, and also to the accumulation of cultural capital (as defined by Bourdieu), to the emphasizing of the author-function, and to the disciplining of reading practices. The main part of the thesis considers different sort of strategies that implicated the rise of literature as an institution, the historical conditions that regulated the emergence of the depending literary field and its separation within the social system. Canonical texts, as the repositories of cultural value (cultural capital) function as an instrument of the integration and separation (distinction) within the community. In other words, they are creating national and other identities which, despite its esthetic value, support prevalent social relations, based on different sorts of hegemonic relationships.
