Sažetak
ORPEUS is European association of PhD programmes in biomedicine and health sciences initiated at the Second European Conference in Zagreb 2005. It followed the First Conference, held in2004. The outcome of the Conference was the “ Zagreb Declaration” which is in a way a unique document defining for the first time PhD programme. The establishment of ORPHEUS comes at the time when according to “ Bologna process” PhD programme should be established as a third circle of high education, but also in a time when some countries are without PhD in medicine while other have two some perceive PhD programme as a research based only while other look at it as a prolonged learning. Obviously there is a need of harmonisation in all fields of biomedical research including the research in dentistry. At the same time on our computer screen (PubMed) of former “ East” vs. “ West” European countries are enormous. With so huge differences in research input and output - to achieve harmonization, mobility, and other noble goal of “ Bologna process” , according to our opinion, requires new ideas, new organisation, new visions - or Europe as a society based on knowledge (and health) will remain only a dream.
