Sažetak
Posidonia oceanica (L.) Delile as the most common sea grass in the Mediterranean Sea comprises 2% of littoral zone and represents highly complex and productive ecological systems with rich faunistic assemblage. Although, numerous investigations were carried out in P. oceanica communities, data about associated meiofauna are very scarce. Here we present results of investigation of meiofauna performed during autumn 2008 on P. oceanica meadow in Starigrad Bay (Island of Hvar, Adriatic Sea). Samples of meiofauna were collected from the sediment beneath Posidonia, from leafs of Posidonia and from the sediment near the meadow. Specimens from 10 major taxonomic groups were found. Meiofauna was the most abundant on the leaves of P. oceanica with the dominance of Copepoda, followed by Polychaeta. In the sediment beneath and near the Posidonia meadow abundance of meiofauna was very scarce. Unlike the sediment near the Posidonia meadow where Nematoda dominated, in the sediment beneath the meadow, dominance of any group was not observed.
