Sažetak
Some drained hydromorphic soil situated in the southern part of Vukovar-Syrmium County (VSC) in Croatia have potassium unbalances with aspect of field crops nutrition mainly as result of strong potassium (K) fixation and very high levels of exchangeable magnesium (Mg). Using of ameliorative K rate (KCl form) up to 990 kg K2O/ha (Cerna experiment) maize yield were considerably increased up to 7.74 t/ha (the control 2.29 t/ha). Leaf statuses (on dry matter basis) were 0.65% K (acute K deficiency with typical symptoms) and 1.38 % Mg, as well 1.27% K and 1.07% Mg, for the control and ameliorative K treatment, respectively (2-year averages). Analogical comparison for maize of Mikanovci experiment were as follows (3-year means): 1.93 and 7.65 t/ha, 0.60 % K and 1.58 % K, 1.94% Mg and 0.95% Mg, 55% and 4% of stalk lodging at maturity, for the control and 2650 kg K2O/ha, respectively. The second strategy for alleviation of K nutritional problem in soils of VSC is growing of more tolerant genotypes of main field crops. For example, inclusion of Os1-48 parent in maize hybrids could be used as source of property characterizing resistance to stalk lodging (SL) under conditions of K deficiency (5% SL and 60% SL of maize hybrids of Os1-48 and Os87-24 parent, respectively).
