Sažetak
It is well known that for a continuous operation of the reciprocating pump a certain level of pressure intensity needs to be achieved at the suction, that will maintain the fluid in the liquefied phase, thus preventing harmful impact of cavitation on the pump performance and on its mechanical elements. In order to insure sufficient pressure intensity, the required net positive suction high of the pump unit NPSHpp has been defined.
The fluid flow in the hydrodynamic system with a reciprocating pump has the properties of a steady oscillatory periodical flow, as direct consequence of kinematic properties of the pump reciprocating mechanism and the number of pistons. Therefore, in calculating the available magnitude of NPSHpp characteristic, the kinematic and dynamic properties of the hydrodynamic system need to be taken into consideration.
Measurements have been performed on the hydrodynamic system with a triplex pump for pumping of salt water into the gas drill. The flow and pressures have been measured at five measuring points. The measurement results are shown in the form of a diagram and tables and confirm the authors assumption about the impact of periodical fluid acceleration variations on the available NPSHpp characteristic of the hydrodynamic system with reciprocating pump.
