Sažetak
The main goal of this paper is the development of the method for positioning line break detectors in a manner which guarantees a hundred percent rupture detection (provided that the rupture area expansion rate exceeds an established value). The method of line break detection is based on monitoring the pressure time gradient signal. The model of one-dimensional, unsteady, isothermal, viscous fluid flow of real gases is adopted, while the method of characteristics is used for line breakage simulations. The number and locations of line break detectors are determined on the basis of simulation results. An example of suitable locations for line break detectors in the gas distributive network of town Zagreb is also presented in this paper.
