Coherent Accumulation Effects in Atoms, Train of Femtosecond Pulses
Sažetak
The regular train of pulses with femtosecond duration have a very specific frequency comb structure of extraordinary importance for the further development of atomic, molecular and optical physics. We investigate a few specific consequences of the femtosecond laser frequency comb action on the rubidium atoms in the cell at room temperature. When the resonance lines lifetimes are longer than the time between adjacent pulses of the pulse train accumulation effects appear in populations and coherences. This causes the change of the Doppler profiles into peculiar profiles with peaks and holes separated by repetition frequency of the optical frequency comb. We present the adequate theory which gives a very good comparison with experimental findings. Behaviour in the homogeneous magnetic field is further discussed as well as other interesting applications of the modified direct frequency comb spectrsocopy.
