Sažetak
The inland navigation system consists of a number of interdependent entities. One of the most important system elements are the navigation convoys as means for transporting cargo, and their characteristics. The navigation convoys on inland waterways differ according to the type of coupling, navigation area and are limited by the characteristics of the waterway for which they are intended. In the Republic of Croatia, the traffic on inland waterways has not seen any significant increase lately, so that there are consequently no significant investments into the fleet. Since Croatia is a Danube country, the analysis of the characteristics of the Danube fleet and the trends in the future development of ships, as well as the existing condition of crafts in Croatia, it may be seen that the investments into fleet modernization are necessary in order to integrate Croatia more seriously into the goods flows on the Danube river, as well as because of the revitalization of the goods flows on Croatia’ s own navigable waterways.
