Sažetak
Sweet chestnut extracts, obtained from 3 cultivars were examined for phenolics contents by spectrophotometric determination and antioxidant activity using EPR spectroscopy. Parts of sweet chestnut such as fruit core, the outer brown and red internal fruit peel, the whole of the fruit, the leaf, the catkin, burs and old chestnut bark have been extracted by 50% ethanol as an extragent. Leaf and catkin of Grafted Italian „ Marrone“ cultivar have showed the highest relative activity in the removal of the .O2 – radicals. Also efficient to scavenge superoxide radicals have been extracts of leaf of Lovran chestnut with relative inhibition (RI) of (80%), spiny burs (79%) and old chestnut bark (77%). The strong antioxidant activity of extracts clearly indicates the potential application value of their application.
