Sažetak
To survive in the competitive environment of maritime transport, companies have to struggle on a daily basis to balance between staying efficient and reducing costs. Although very conservative, the field of maritime transport is also very competitive, which implies their willingness to implement new technologies into the existing structures. Maritime transport market is a very unstable one, with many variables changing on a daily basis. Company management has to be prepared for the everchanging circumstances, in order to maximize profit and to avoid being pushed out of business by other, more competitive and quicker to react, companies. Tasks which only years ago required substantial time and effort can today be done with only a few clicks of a mouse, and at a fraction of a former cost. Such opportunities brought to the market by the evolution of electronic commerce should not be ignored, because of their well-proven advantages in maximizing profit and reducing costs. The graduate work starts from scratch, beginning with the basics of internet, its history, principles and numerous network services. Next chapter deals with electronic commerce (basic types, methods of implementation, possible problems, and security of business transactions on the web). The main part of the graduate work explains various web based services relevant to the business of maritime transport, noting the business models on which they are based, explaining their advantages over the “ old” models of doing business, and contemplating the future possibilities of implementation.
