Sažetak
University of Zagreb Faculty of Textile Technology has received the prestigue IMB Innovation Award 2009 for the third place in the category Research & Development. Innovation entitled Modular Microwave Device for Thermal Treatments of Flexible Materials was submited for the IMB Innovation Award 2009 by the inventors Prof. Drago Katović and Prof. Sandra Bischof Vukušić. During the IMB 2009 exhibition the invention was exhibited at the 7.1 C 40B and presented on the Innovation Award Area in the period 21st -24th April 2009. An industrial microwave device was designed on the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Textile Technology (TTF), based on the principle tested on the patented laboratory MW device. Newly designed microwave device completely utilizes the obtained microwave energy in a process. Namely, microwaves make the bipolar water molecules rotate which causes their friction leading to heating i.e. drying. The remaining energy, not used in drying via waveguides, is used for heating the water used as the absorber of microwave energy. This heated water can be used in further processing which enables utilization of the transmitted microwave energy.
