Sažetak
Molecular Recognition Theory is based on the finding of Blalock et al. (Nature Med. 1 (1995) 876-878) that peptides specified by the complementary RNAs bind to each other with higher specificity and efficacy (Stambuk et al., Theory Biosci. 123 (2005) 265-275 ; Stambuk, Croat. Chem. Acta 71 (1998) 573-589). This theory could be used for the identification and analysis of discontinuous binding regions, within large antigenic molecules and it is an applicable heuristic algorithm for the identification of possibly interacting amino acid pairs of short linear epitope/paratope sites (Stambuk et al., Croat. Chem. Acta 81 (2008) 283-287). In order to achieve better efficiency the heuristic algorithm of molecular recognition has to be combined to several other procedures: molecular hydropathy analyses, secondary structure prediction methods and protein database search (Stambuk et al., Croat. Chem. Acta 81 (2008) 283-287). The limitation of the combined MRT-hydropathy analyses is in the fact that it cannot explain 3D protein interactions, but it can be a valuable starting point for more complex computational and experimental analysis (Stambuk et al., Croat. Chem. Acta 81 (2008) 283-287). Described concept represents useful and simple set of procedures for deriving new biologically active peptides and antibodies, and also performing modulation and investigation of targeted peptide-receptor interactions (Houra, Stambuk et al., Croat. Chem. Acta 79 (2006) 379-383). It could also simplify experimental procedures, reduce the costs of the peptide synthesis, improve peptide structure modelling and identify possible targets relevant for the vaccine development and toxicology (Stambuk et al., Theory Biosci. 123 (2005) 265-275).
