Sažetak
Pathogen-specific serum antibodies (Abs) against Leptospira interrogans serogroup pomona (LISP) raised in adult Y59 rats were used to develop a model for testing the passively acquired immunity to a unique challenge organism, i. e. LISP, in newborn rats. Prior to the experimental infection newborns were given intraperitoneally either 0.5 mg/g or 0.75 mg/g of body weight of anti-LISP Abs. Control animals received either nonspecific allogeneic immunoglobulins or medium only. Both groups of newborn rats that were injected with anti-LISP Abs (0.5 mg/g or 0.75 mg/g) had 92% or 97.1%, respectively, of animals free of leptospires in their kidneys. In the sera of these rats Abs to LISP were not detected. Conversely, in both groups of the controls the renal carriage of leptospires and the presence of anti-LISP Abs in the pooled serum sample were observed in all infected animals.
