Sažetak
Design of molecules that recognize and selectively bind anions is of paramount importance in various fields of chemistry and biology. The role of anions in governing many life processes is in the last decade recognized and the field of anion-binding experiences significant growth during that period, but the tailoring of efficient receptors is still a challenging task, mostly due to anions properties. Anions are larger than isoelectric cations ; they display low charge to radius ratio, various geometry, high solvation energies and pH dependent charge, so the receptor must work in narrow pH range and must be complementary in structure and charge to efficiently accommodate anion. Two strategies are developed for tailoring of efficient hosts. The rigid, preorganized receptors express high binding constants and often are peak selective. They are used in industry and pharmaceutics (waste management, biomedicine etc.). Flexible synthetic receptors usually show weaker binding constants, but have many advantages. They demonstrate anion-dependant behavior in their spatial arrangements and they are easily synthesized and modulated. By careful design and introducing of signaling groups, these conformational adaptations can be utilized in order to build complex molecular sensors capable of providing an unambiguous fingerprint of anionic species. Podand L displays great variety of conformations in the presence of different anionic species. These conformers are self-assembled in hosts depending on the anion demands and environment. The rigidity of the hosts is induced by non-covalent interactions and used as a foundation for selectivity of the self-assembled host for target anion.
