Sažetak
The primary objective of any shipyard is to achieve at least sustainable, if not excellent results in a given business surrounding. Therefore, detailed quality planning should take into account as many relevant data as possible. To adequately manage quality costs and constantly improve product quality, many shipyards align their quality system with requirements of international quality management standards ISO 9001:2008. Starting with quality management and risk assessment, the paper discusses general concepts of a quality management system based on ISO 9001 standard, necessity and commitment of a shipyard for successful and timely implementation of preventive activities in order to detect and remove causes of possible nonconformities. Preventive actions save resources as there is a price to pay for the discovery of potential nonconformities. An assessment of effective preventive actions is discussed in connection with operative risk analysis by FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) method. FMEA is a procedure by which potential failure modes are analyzed to determine their effects on a system and to classify them according to their severity. Possible application of the FMEA method in quality improvement of production processes is shown on a selected case from the shipbuilding daily operations.
