Sažetak
In the SUVAG Polyclinic for the Rehabilitation of Listening and Speech in Zagreb the diagnostics, observation, rehabilitation and education programs for hearing and/or speech impaired persons of all age groups are implemented by team work. Diagnostics and rehabilitation are carried out according to the principles of the verbotonal method whose author is academician Petar Guberina. The verbotonal method is based on the structural approach to speech communication and perception with the application of modern scientific and technological achievements in complementary fields of profession and science. The effects of acoustic environment (noise, reverberation) are especially significant predictors of rehabilitation and academic success of children whose language difficulties can be caused by central auditory processing disorders. This is why in Preschool and School Department of the SUVAG Polyclinic we use EduLink working with children who have speech and language disorders. This device works on the principle of emphasizing the primary speech signal 12 – 20 dB above the environmental noise and in this way, making reception and processing of speech signal easier. The purpose of this research was to examine the effect of EduLink on improvement of auditory attention, speech message processing and on verbal instructions to children of preschool and school age. Group rehabilitator and parents filled in a questionnaire on the changes in behavior of children involved in the experiment. (Variables observed had been examined before the application of the device and six months after its use.) The control group consisted of children included in the same type of program without use of FM device (complex verbotonal rehabilitation). EduLink has been used every day during children stay in the SUVAG Polyclinic. Children who used EduLink showed better results on all subtests (descriptive statistic) but there were not statistically significant differences between groups (multivariate statistic). The results confirm the benefit of usage of EduLink during group’ s speech and language therapy. The results of the research show positive consequences of everyday usage of the device in children with speech-language problems in combination with individual speech therapy and special methodological procedures-Verbotonal method (body movement stimulations and musical stimulations).
