Sažetak
Regional development is a process of advancing the tourist, economic, social, cultural and ecologic development aspects of a certain region. This process takes place through the development of the tourist region potential as well as through the development of relations between the region and the rest of the world. Regional development is governed by regional economic policy whose main goal is the reduction of inequalities and disproportions between regions of a country or an integration, the consequences of those inequalities being the economic, social, political, and other characteristics of the regions/countries. Regional economic policy does not refer merely to regional development – it also includes the achievement of solidarity among countries and the reduction of the ever-present differences. Once Croatia meets all of the EU requirements, it is going to become a full member of the most developed regional integration in the world, which brings a range of advantages that will enable future development and progress of a “ European” tourist Croatia. The research subject of this thesis relates to the regional policy of Croatia and its adjustment to the regional policy of the European Union. Basic guidelines for the achievement of compatibility in the areas under Croatian regional policy are given, which are in concordance with spatial planning and activities surveillance through the establishment of a single and integral spatial data base. The authors assert that it is necessary for Croatia to prepare for entering the EU Structural funds and the pre-admittance aid development programs. The thesis concludes with research into the instruments and measures of Croatian regional policy on tourism.
