Sažetak
This article present certain points of the public health work of the doctor John the Baptist Lalangue (1743-1799), the founder of health enlightenment in Croatia. Public health activities in the second half of the 18th century were closely connected with the health enlightenment. Health enlightenment work was conducted in Croatia, as well as in other parts of Habsburg monarchy, as the most significant public health measure. The central figure in these activities was John the Baptist Lalangue whom Queen Maria Theresa sent from Vienna to Varaždin in 1772. His activities were mostly related on publishing of health enlightenment books, teaching of the population and education of health enlightenment collaborators. His work was linked with different topics important for the population at the time such as hygiene, epidemiology, nutrition, nursery etc. Lalangue's publications are the first Croatian health education books with specific orientation and methodology made by a doctor of medicine.
