Sažetak
Transition metal complexes have been extensively investigated due to their insulin-mimetic properties. Simple organic ligands e.g. 3-hydroxypicolinic acid exhibit insulin-mimetic activity which can often be enhanced by the coordination of metal ions. Cobalt(II) complexes with hydroxy derivatives of picolinic acid (3- and 6-hydroxypicolinic acid) have been described in the literature. We have prepared and structurally characterized trans-bis(3-hydroxypyridine-2-carboxylato-N, O)bis(pyridine)cobalt(II), (1) and cis-bis(3-hydroxypyridine-2-carboxylato-N, O)bis(4-picoline)cobalt(II), (2) by recrystallization of trans-diaquabis(3-hydroxypyridine-2-carboxylato-N, O)cobalt(II) in pyridine or 4-picoline, respectively. Cobalt(II) ion is coordinated by two N, O-bidentate 3-hydroxypicolinate ligands in both 1 and 2. Furthermore, the coordination sphere of cobalt(II) ion is completed by two pyridine molecules in trans position [N3– Co1– N4, 179.2(1)˚ ] in 1 and by two 4-picoline molecules in cis position [N2i– Co1– N2, 90.3(1)˚ ; symmetry code (i): 1-x, y, 3/2-z] in 2. The coordination polyhedron around cobalt(II) ion in 1 and 2 is a distorted octahedron. The crystal structures of 1 and 2 are supported only by weak intermolecular C– H...O hydrogen bonds. Moreover, π – π stacking interactions are present in the crystal packing of 2. All complexes have also been characterized by IR spectroscopy and thermal methods (TGA/DTA).
