Sažetak
The aim of this paper is to explore the behaviour of foreign owned SMEs in Croatia in terms of their R&D transfer and innovation strategies upon entry into the host country (Croatia) and at present. Here, innovation strategy means the introduction of new products or processes within entreprises. The approach used is based on the analysis of growth strategies of foreign MNEs in Croatia, i.e. the effects on innovation strategy based on ownership type and local performance. as well as the influence in this process originating from various types of R&D and innovation activities. In addition, the data provided insight into spillover effects of MNE activities in Croatia. The data used in this analysis was generated by a survey of knowledge transfers and innovation activities in manufacturing enterprises recipients of foreign direct investments in the period 2004-2006. The paper is organised as follows. First, we analyse the literature on strategic motives and outcomes in terms of FDI behaviour and relating to innovation activities. In the next section, the methodology and the results of the research are presented. Finally, concluding remarks are presented in the last section.
