Sažetak
Houses, constructions and monuments built of natural stone situated near the sea, are exposed to salinization by the salts originating from the sea water. The surface damage of the stone is the result of crystallization pressures and corrosive action of the sea water salt, especially potassium chloride. These harmful effects can be observed as surface crumbling, dispersal or peeling of large areas of stone crusts. Even though the damage can be extensive in places, not all parts of the surface are equally damaged. The examples, which show great damage, without a doubt point to an almost complete absence of natural desalinization by rain in covered parts of the stone constructions, protected from the rain. All the experience gained from the research shows that the built-in natural stone could be protected from the damage caused by the sea salt by simple washing and leaching with the help of readily available technique and technology.
