Sažetak
Decision for rotation or seed treatment in IPM of maize could be based on adult density in previous year maize field. For estimating threshold levels, investigations were carried out between 2005-2007 in Croatia, Hungary and Slovakia. WCR adult population levels were measured on 10-15 fields/year/country by using 3 Pherocon AM traps per field in 2005 and 2006. Following years (2006 and 2007) these fields were planted to maize. Root damage rate (IOWA scale), plant lodging and yield losses were recorded on each field in 3 replications. Adult densities in previous year were correlated to subsequent year larval damage, plant lodging and yield loss. The strength of correlations highly depends on weather conditions. Rainy and cold weather over the maize growing season in 2006 allowed intensive root regeneration and resulted in low root damage and weak correlations. We found that WCR maximum adult capture result in higher root damage in extreme dry and warm season than in years when precipitation is high. Correlation of Pherocon AM capture to next year larval damage vary from year to year and region by region. We concluded that PhAM captures should be considered as indicative action but not economic threshold levels since weather conditions in summer impact the level of larval damage in subsequent year.
