Sažetak
In the history of furniture production, wood has always been the basic form and construction material. The discovery and development of new materials and technologies including the latest research in the area of seating in production includes ergonomic breakthroughs and principles that lead to modern solutions in working furniture, which in itself, unfortunately, contains less and less wood and wood-based materials. This paper shows the development of office and school furniture in terms of application of various materials in the formation, construction and production technologies and the analysis of factors leading to less use of wood in this category of products. Neither is the positive ecological impact ignored which wood possesses in the production of furniture, considering that it is a natural renewable source of raw materials. It is emphasized, that despite the overwhelming economic factors, wood and wood-based materials continue to be present in original solutions for office and school work chairs which serve to maintain and preserve the health of users.
