Sažetak
In L-methionine production from a racemic mixture of alfa-hydroxy acids, electrodialysis as an integrated downstream processing was used, because according to the pH the amino acids behave as a cation or an anion or a zwitterion. Also the electrodialysis is a suitable method of separation with respect to the energy requiremnet. A comprehesive model for the entire set up was developed. The model predicted and in real system the sevenhold increase space-time yield was achieved due to an increase of substrate level by continuously recycling the unconverted substrate from the electrodialysis unit to the enzyme membrane reactor.
