Sažetak
The term somatization describes individuals with physical symptoms that are medically unexplained (Lipowski, 1988). The most commonly reported symptoms were headaches, recurrent abdominal pain (RAP), limb paints, chest pain... According to DSM- IV (1996), somatization disorder is classified in a group of somatomorph disorders. Somatization is one the best indicators of psychopathology that shows up in the primary pediatric care and for that very reason it is of great importance to identify and to intensify its protective factors. Thea main purpose of this research was to examine relationship between the tendencies to somatization with the quality of family interaction during adolescence. The sample (N=252) included children from secondary schoolchildren (first to fourth graders). The scales used have been designed in our country and adjusted to the age group of the adolescents: Scale of physical symptoms of anxiety – SOMA (Vulic- Prtoric, 2004.) and Scale of quality of family interaction – KOBI (Vulic- Prtoric, 2004.). The study carried out with Croatian schoolchildren indicates that certain forms of interaction between a child and his parents corresponds significantly to adolescents' tendency to somatization. The adolescent prone to somatization are less satisfied with their parents, they feel they are rejected by both parents, as well as they feel less accepted. Explanation for this correlation, Wood (1994.) refer to adaptive family processes: overinvolvement or disengagement, rigid authoritarian or laissez-faire generational hierarchy, extremely high pr low level of family responsitivity to the child's symptoms. The symptoms of adolescent`s somatization depend of these processes.
