Sažetak
During warfare torpedo was one of the most disastrous weapons of the time, mainly used by submarines, but also by ships and airplanes. Before use every torpedo had to pass very difficult testing processes. In order to safely and precisely launch it below, from or above sea level, it was necessary to build such facility which enabled simulation of all launch positions. As first torpedoes were made right in Rijeka back in mid 19th century, comes as no surprise that for the final testing purposes, Torpedo launch pad station stayed in use until mid 1960s. Rather devastated launch pad station in Rijeka today, is important and valuable monument which was declared cultural good in June 2008. On the example of Rijeka’ s Torpedo launch pad station, this paper will give an overview of what should have been done and was not, and of what is being done to salvage and preserve an important monument of technological activities of Rijeka and its citizens that endures time.
