Sažetak
To evaluate the subjective aspects of quality of life in outpatients treated for epilepsy in Croatia. The study, which included 270 patients and 140 matched control individuals, was carried out multicentrically in 5 services for epilepsies. The inclusion criteria for the patients were age (>17), seizures in the past 2 years (1-10) and continuing therapy. We used the abbreviated questionnaire validated as an instrument for health-related quality of life in patients with epilepsy (Med Care 1992 ; 30:299-319) .The analysis of scales between patients and control individuals showed that were no significant differences in assessment of overall quality of life, social function, emotional well - being, energy/fatigue, cognitive function, and work efficacy. The only significant difference was in the domain of general health perception (p< 0.005). The obtained data suggest that the subpopulation of patients characterized with a relatively small number of seizures and continuing therapy does not feel serious handicapped because of the epilepsy. In addition, it points to the fact that the position of people with epilepsy in Croatia is relatively convenient in comparison with some other countries.
