Sažetak
A critical analysis of benefits of introduction of fast breeders in slowed down expansion of nuclear power. Fast breeders must be evaluated on their technical and economic performance and not as the only way to ensure the long term oerspective for nuclear power. A limiting uranium cost for thermal and fast reactors to produce energy at the same cost has been calculated. For water cooled reactors of PWR and PHWR type a limiting uranium cost of $350-$600 was obtainede for the range of capital cost ratioo of FBR to thermal reactors of 1.3 to 1.6.
