Sažetak
This paper reports work covering the variation in mechanical properties and surface quality in the extrusion of AlMgSi aluminum hollow sections incorporating different extrusion conditions.
AlMgSi (6063) aluminum alloys are the most commonly used alloys within the extrusion industry. They have a wide range of functions. Since such sections are mostly used in buildings for the construction of doors, windows and other applications, special attention is paid to the roughness and reflection of the surface.
These properties, along with being mechanical properties, become important in surface finishing for decorative purposes. Experiments were performed in the extrusion of hollow sections at two different temperatures and two different rates. Both as cast and homogenized billets made from two AlMgSi (6063) alloys with different Mn content were used.
The temperature at the die-bearing surface was controlled by a micro thermocouple. Results show that two factors are essential for the successful production of AlMgSi (6063) sections for building. They are the chemical composition and the exit temperature of the section.
