Sažetak
The aluminum extrusion process consists of several mutually connected production procedures. They are: billets production, dies production, semiproducts (sections) production and final products production. The whole aluminum extrusion process is so complex that no individual can have complete insight into the problem and make decisions alone. Consequently, the leading world manufacturers of aluminum shapes have introduced Expert Systems (ES) in manufacturing process. An expert system is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) program that performs intelligent tasks currently performed by skilled people. Expert system uses knowledge of human experts through their experience with particular types of problem situations. This system can replace humans to guide and control complex manufacturing processes. In this paper we look at basic considerations for development of a knowledge-based expert system for aluminum extrusion process based on the significant manufacturing experience of the authors. Forward and backward process ES is considered.
