Sažetak
Development of the SMEs sector in Croatia has been, to a large extent, sponta-neous and accidental and we cannot be satisfied with the results of such devel-opment. Regardless of the numerous programmes and institutions dealing with the promotion of the SMEs sector, the results are poor in terms of job creation, higher quality of products, access to international market, and productivity in-crease.In all, the need exists for further promoting of entrepreneurship, to simplify and improve the administrative and regulatory framework for the SMEs so there could be advances in innovation, research and business creation, to improve the financial structure for businesses and to give the SMEs easier access to support services, programmes and networks while increasing the coordination of these facilities.
