Sažetak
This paper describes the process of producing an interactive 3D visualisation application of the Croatian island of Rava. For development of such a comprehensive 3D model, accurate representation of both, the underlying terrain and also the natural and artificial features imposed on this terrain, are of the highest importance. To achieve this, a variety of geospatial and cartographic source materials is combined using a wide range of tools and applications to form a base for 3D modeling and visualisation. The project research was thought and realized in order to become: a guide and a starting point for tourists, an updatable tool useful for the local communities (even thanks to the sustainability offered by the open source software used) and a scientific base for researchers and scholars. The final results of the research are visualisations of the island of Rava in 3D that simulate for the user the impression of reality. These representations offer the opportunity for interactive exploration and analysis by experts and those who are encountering this kind of representation for the first time, which makes them accessible to a wide range of users: tourists, ecologists, geographers, geologists, archaeologists, historians, town planners, foresters, agronomists and many others who want to geocode the results of their measurements and research.
