Sažetak
Discussing organizational values primarily means speaking about what is good for any organization, what must and should happen. Organizational values are accepted standards regulating behaviour of an individual within the organization. They represent important factors of accepting changes, which is of high importance for contemporary organizations. Vague and non-transparent organizational values obstruct values that members of this organization show in relation to work, which decreases efficiency of the organization. Organizational values also comprise personal characteristic of organization members. Personal values are tightly linked to individual characteristics of an individual. Attitudes, readiness for team work, trust, respect, satisfaction of the employees and their specific personal characteristics are the most important factors influencing business success. This work presents results of the research conducted on the first-year-student samples at one American and one Croatian college. The results show that even in this early stage of preparation for their future careers students in both samples consider motivation for graduation to be the realization of their personal values: with development of their careers these values will probably become a part of the system of organizational values inside the company. Results show that students evaluate success, education, and personal development to be important factors as early as at enrolling into the process of higher education, and that they choose a specific curriculum of studies which complies with their personal intrinsic motivation. Results may be interpreted as contributing to the importance of education and work in acquiring the system of values for future experts and academic citizens and to amend the higher education curriculum, providing contents that additionally support upgrading of the system of personal values.
