Sažetak
This paper highlights several undergoing projects in Croatia in which development of major urban areas is closely connected with the global strategy of country’ s development. One of strategic priorities of sustainable development of Croatia is to balance the economic growth of distinct regions of the country. Thus, transportation infrastructure development is one of the main concerns with additional efforts on connecting islands to the mainland in an attempt to attract people and to facilitate tourism. Projects described within this paper still largely resort to concrete as the predominant construction material, although there are many examples of various combinations of concrete and steel providing for efficient and exceptional structures.
