Sažetak
BACKGROUND: Psoriasis, one of the most common chronic skin deseases still possess a therapeutic challenge to dermatologists. Stressful life events are proposed aggravators of the disease process in psoriasis. Treatment of psoriasis is aimed at inducing and maintaining remission. Psychiological factors can influence the effectiveness of a conventional therapy for psoriasis. AIM: to find a relation between stressful life events and clinical severity of disease during phototheraphy ; to analyse the changes in intensity of depression and anxiety symptoms during phototherapy ; to find the influence of depression and anxiety symptoms on clinical severety of disease. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Fourteen patients (N=14) were included in the study (8 females, 6 males, mean age 40.35 y ears old). The patients attented phototherapy with narrow-band UVB. In evaluation of life stress events we usedtwo psychological scales: life event scale and Hopkins scale for anxiety and depression. RESULTS: We found a statistically significant correlation between stressful life events and PASI score at the end of phototherapy. Stressful life events have significant effect on phototherapy outcome. We observed a statistically significant correlation between depression symptoms occuring in periods of reducing phototherapy attendance and PASI score at the end of phototherapy. CONCLUSION: Our results point on the possible effect of reduced attendance at phototherapy on depression symptoms and phototherapy failure at the end.
