Sažetak
Šibenik Bridge was constructed across Šibenik bay from 1964-1966. The arch bridge of 246 m span, and 31 m rise was the first concrete arch bridge in the world erected entirely by cantilever method. In autumn of 1991, during Croatian Homeland war, the bridge was damaged by several artillery grenades hits. However, the damage was not as severe as to require the suspension of road traffic across the bridge. Today, four decades upon completion, the bridge shows signs of deterioration. Inspection and material testing were carried out in 2005. Reinforcement corrosion and concrete spalling were detected on most structural members. The most affected areas are superstructure supports, designed as half-joints – a detail which caused much concern in respect to bridge durability. Inadequate drainage system substantially contributes to structural deterioration. Šibenik bridge is situated in less aggressive maritime environment than other long-span concrete arch bridges of Croatia, but chloride ions content was found to be above critical value at arch springings.
