Sažetak
A case study was performed of the effect of advanced fuel cycles and advanced reactors on the uranium requirements in a small or medium nuclear system built within a restricted time interval. Under those assumptions even crude economic considerations are sufficient to eliminate strategies which, under less realistic assumptions, might appear attractive, such as plutonium recycling and fast breeder reactors.The results obtained should be of interest for a number of developing countries likely to consider nuclear option by the turn of century. It is concluded that for the assumptions of the study direct fuel cycle in thermal reactors is the best choice. This conclusion is conducive to a concentration of efforts towards advanced direct fuel cycles in advanced thermal reactors as the best course for future decades.
