Sažetak
Background: According to recent studies, psoriasis has a profound impact on patient’ s quality of life. However, the relationship between specific disease severity and quality of life measures and the impact of different therapies and sociodemographic variables on quality of life is not clarified sufficiently. Aim: To examine the impact of disease severity (PASI), sociodemografic variables and different treatment modalities on specific quality of life measure (Psoriasis Index of Quality of Life) in patients with psoriasis. Patients and methods: Sixty psoriasis patients attending a psoriasis outpatient setting underwent a clinical assessment using the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) and completed a questionnaire that included questions on sociodemographic and medical data and specific quality of life instrument (Psoriasis Index of Quality of Life). Results: PASI failed to correlate significantly with the Psoriasis Index of Quality of Life. However, differences in method of treatment for psoriasis, as well as sociodemographic variables, significantly affect scores on the psoriasis-specific quality of life measures. Conclusion: The aim of the treatment, beside the minimizing severity and the extent of the disease, should also be able to reduce the impact on psoriasis on quality of life. Sociodemografic factors should also be discussed prior to treatment decision.
