Sažetak
This paper elaborates an approach to use rapid prototyping in tools design. The range of rapid prototyping applications is impressive to say the least. Few technologies are versatile enough to aid the design and manufacture of jewelry, toys, hip joints, engine parts, tools, architectural models, skeletal replicas for museums, art and mathematical models. In a few short years, rapid prototyping has moved from being a cure for no known disease to a cure for every known disease. Within the frame of advancing rapid prototyping, interdisciplinary knaw-how gains central significance and is the basis for a smooth integration of research results into industrial processes. Although rapid prototyping processes are already applied in industry, the rising complexity of problems linked to this technological innovation have not been sufficiently considered. This paper shows an idea about network of institutions with similar interest in using rapid prototyping as a pilot-study which was conducted in co-operation with firms which produce different tools to evaluate the requirements for rapid prototyping systems. It is also toking about rapid prototyping process chain and required equipment in rapid prototyping in tools design.
