Sažetak
Mid-water trawl was noticed as the most important fishing gear in pelagic fisheries on small pelagic fish at the northern Adriatic Sea. A description of fishing vessels, fishing gear, fishing activities on the sea, as well as composition of its catches is given in this paper. An attempt to standardise fishing power of various mid-water trawlers was made. For Croatian mid-water trawlers fishing fleet sardine (Sardina pilchardus Walb.) is a target species. The average portion of sardine is about 87% of the weight in the total catch. The other species of commercial interest, often caught together with sardine, were anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus L.), sprat (Sprattus sprattus L.), atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus L.), spanish mackerel (Scomber japonicus Houttuyn) and horse mackerel (Trachurus mediterraneus Stein.).
