Sažetak
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are infections that can be transferred from one person to another through sexual contact. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are over 15 million cases of STIs reported annually in the United States. Chlamydia trachomatis infection is one of the most common STIs. The CDC estimates that more than 3 million cases of Chlamydia trachomatis infection occur every year. Chlamydia trachomatis infection is known as a “ silent” disease because about three quarters of infected women and about half of infected men have no symptoms. If symptoms do occur, they usually appear within 1 to 3 weeks after the exposure. The treatment of C. trachomatis infection depends on the site of the infection, the age of the patient, and whether the infection is complicated or uncomplicated. Treatment also differs during pregnancy. Reinfection is a common problem. All sexual partners should be medically evaluated, tested, and treated. The first aim of this study was to analyze the inicidence of Chlamydia trachomatis infection among 400 patients with STI attending Department of Dermatovenereology. The second aim was to determine medical treatment of primary and recurrent Chlamydial infections and to analyze the cost of ordinated treatments. The results could provide useful data on the incidence and treatment possibilities in STI patients.
