Sažetak
A small system for hydrogen production which consists of solar cells and alkaline water electrolyzer was constructed, experimentally tested, mathematically modeled and simulated using Matlab-Simulink software. Solar cells were arranged the way resulting U-I characteristics maximum power point (MPP) during the change of solar irradiance travels close to U-I characteristics of the electrolyzer. There was no power conditioning equipment between solar cells output and electrolyzer input contacts. Solar irradiation, temperature of the solar cells, current, voltage in the circuit and the temperature and level of the electrolyte have been measured. Two different types of electrodes were performed: referent electrode type made of nickel (Ni) plated carbon steel and advanced Ni-metal foam electrode with the same ground plan area. This paper represents part of the work towards using Ni-metal foam (made by Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, Japan) as the 3-D electrodes and diaphragm made of Zirfon® ; (non-asbestos material composed of polysulphone as binder and zirconium oxide as filler substance produced by VITO, Belgium) in construction of the advanced alkaline electrolyzer aimed for coupling with solar cells.
